Her

Everyday it seems there is something new that I realize brings me anxiety. This process of declaring and deciding and knowing that anxiety is what I ought to call a large number of my thoughts, it haunts me. Knowing that I have anxiety, causes anxiety; it is a bittersweet style of irony. I recently found out that I like a person. She is a really great person, but I would have much rather remained oblivious to the fact that I indeed did like her. Even worse, she likes me, though I am unable to fully convince myself of that fact.
I don’t know why life has to be the way it does sometimes. It feels like out of sure cruelty it sends you into an almost familiar situation with an entirely new set of tools. Last time I had to build a house I was given a yo-yo two packs of gum and a pule of rusty broken off nails. Building this new house it gives me a hammer the same pile of broken nails, though not as rusty, and a few boards. Brand new tools that I have no idea how to build a house out of.
The first time I taught myself to build this house
It
Worked?
Now though Life is forcing me to relearn what I already know, give me my yo-yo back.
My anxiety, I started to write that, then deleted it, then wrote this sentence. I struggle to even self-label what seems clearly to be anxiety. When I was young I could hardly muster the necessary courage to ask for a few more ketchup packets from the person behind the Wendys counter. My dad would get angry at me for not being able to do such a simple thing. To me it was a simple thing to no longer need ketchup. It was simply, much easier to finish my fries without the requisite ketchup.
Tangents, are one of my favorite writing tools. Tangents allow me to continue to write without addressing my own questions that I have already posed.
My anxiety controls my life with this person I like. See at my job I get the unfortunate opportunity to spend my days not thinking about my job, and have little else to occupy my thoughts other than the occasional new song on the radio. With the radio blaring and machines chirping, burring, and chopping My brain likes to ask what I thought of her arm moving 15 degrees in the wrong direction. Well of course, I didn’t like it, though I doubt she knows she even did it, though I doubt it matters if she knows, in fact if she doesn’t know that proves more because the subconscious never lies, though if she did know.
Sometimes I remember to breathe.

Lifeboats of human interaction from my coworkers, new work being brought out, my boss seeing where I am at with my current work, these are the things that help draw me back to reality sometimes.

A thought

I had a few thoughts today. I thought to share them. Questions of why, questions of how, questions of me? All in all they equated to one thought towards the evening. In my typical thinking time, known as my after work shower. My thoughts rested on the idea of discipline. What is discipline, and how do we learn it in old age.
Discipline is doing the things that you say to yourself you are going to do. At least that is my understanding, and it will be the one in which I use for the duration of this thought. This thought of why do I consistently ignore what I should, and want to do in favor of what I shouldn't and don't want to do? Why do I irrestrainably interact with my environment. I often, it occurs to me, leave my desired course of action for one lesser. Why do I do this? What is the root cause of my issues? Such a simple idea of doing what you want to do, yet such a difficult thing.
I have ambitions, I have dreams, I have desires, hopes, wants, wishes, goals, destinations, potential. Yet I lack.
Potential.
Such a dirty word in reality. It speaks of something that has yet to exist, but could possibly. It is the naughtiest word one could ever tell their child. Child you have potential. Read as; You are destined for great things, therefore if you work the same as everyone else you will achieve them. In the mind of a child, everyone is an equal, and when a child is given potential, now they are suddenly going to be better? Excuse my run on sentences. Potential speaks to a part of the brain that for me at least leaves me lacking. I would have benefited more for being praised for hard work. For being praised on my actions, and not my innate abilities.
You are tall, therefore you should play basketball. Unfortunately this kid was always taller than everyone else and never had to work to be good at basketball, and subsequently never worked at it. College tryouts, and open gyms came. He was shorter than everyone else on the field, he was getting trampled, his shot percentages were horrid, and the other tall basketball players kept stuffing him. He still had potential, but he had wasted the time he could've used gaining that potential, by simply utilizing its precursory benefits.
I hope that this makes sense, have a good one.

Thursday

Slowly the world wanders
wondering whether or not we really are here
whether we exist
whether they exist

We all ignore our realities
we all ask the simple questions
we all concede the "obvious"

But is it really obvious?

Those who ponder
see the world in a new light
searching seeking
listening learning
braving believing
creating confounding

ponder we the learners begin to know
we seek and we are given the gift of light
we ask
and we learn
we speak
and we observe

The world wasn't meant for people to be passive
The world wasn't meant for everyone to ignore them
Animals are passive and ignorant

daily thought

Walking the street
eyes on my feet
nowhere to go
nowhere to see

Thinking of life
oh what a rife
what is this show
my internal strife

casting my eyes
thrown like the die
straight like the crow
silent I cry

often I feel like
there's nowhere
No place
for me to be

but I just keep on moving
keep on dreaming
and someday I will be

Poetry

So I was talking with a friend over facebook messenger just yesterday. Somehow I brought up my blog, which clearly I don't post on very much. She said I was a good writer. Somehow the conversation turned into how I enjoy writing poetry occasionally.

Then she had a strange request for me that I have never had before, granted I rarely tell people that I have a blog or that I like poetry. She asked me to write a poem right then and there. I said about what and she asked me to write one about anything, so I wrote a quick one about my drive to school:

Each morning I wake up
arise and see
walk out
get out
leave
wait around
light turns green
take it down
turn it around

sigh

finish the song
turn it
open it
put it in turn it again
and leave

Not exactly refined, but not lacking either. Simplistic in its view, and sharp in its scale. She asked me to describe how I perceived her laugh over the internet, to describe it. As I had just made a joke.

 That laugh?
the radiant smile
the head
slightly
ever so slightly
lifted towards the sky
with joy ringing
and vocal chords beating
to the thought of a new thought

A simple phrase, a small picture. She has this way of laughing that causes your soul to be drawn to her. She beckons you to follow her through this emotional journey to bliss. I shared with her an old poem on love that I had written several years ago (which can be found in the archives). I said how old it was and how it needed to be updated. She asked me to write it how I would write it now. So I did:

love

love is
love is what we are
the way we move
the way we feel
think and breathe
it tortures us
it breaks us
it eats us
it devourers us
it consumes us
it strangles us
it knows us
it kills us
it controls us
it binds us
it stops us
it throttles us
then
then
love heals us
love helps us
love cures us
love bends us
love shapes us
love grows us
love is
great
amazing
beautiful
grand
spontaneous
new
exciting
love is what we are
love is

love

With a little updating from the original, it became what is a simple yet powerful poem. It creates a feeling, a ride. It moves us with it. The topic moved from this lovely oratory on love to how I feel I live in my head. How I don't think that my reality is the same as everyone else's:

it’s fine to live in your head
until it is debilitating
and you find yourself dreaming of things that are impossible
impractical
you can not exist in the realms you have created
you do not want to come to reality
for it stands no chance against what you have made
it can not even exist in the same plane
in can not be in the same existence
because they are that different
this picture perfect
slightly wordy
version of reality
that leaves you wondering
if it’s really worth it.
and you can't
you just can’t decide
if you really want to come out
or if you simply want to hide
screaming out to hear your own voice
just to know that you are still you
and that you are still here
and you find
that no matter what
it doesn’t matter how long you live in there
it just doesn’t matter
because no matter what
you have to leave.
you have to begin to believe
in this world of reality and see
that the world is coming
it is coming at a speed so fast
that you can hardly believe
that it is there
that it is true
but you must see it
for if you do not you will be trapped
you will begin to whither away
to fall and tumble
becoming torn
losing hope
losing joy
you must leave
if you are to survive
you must leave
if you want to be alive
you must dream
if you wish to see the skies
your dreams are what you want them to be
your reality is what you want it to be
the only difference between the two
is what you do.

A sudden darker turn from where we had begun. I felt my dreams falling out of hands as I typed these thoughts that I had thought. My words began to tell a side of me that I wasn't even sure I was aware of. She asked me what my dreams were:

I dream of the places I want to go
the people I want to help
the lives I want to grow
the family I want to meet
the future in my field
the job I will hold dear
the times I choose to hold
and the fears I choose to leave

Not much to wave anything at, but it is a place to start. Dreams are only dreams as long as you allow them to be. She shared her thoughts:

Dreams are what has made the world a better place. Ideas come from them.
Families come from them.
Friends come from them.
Ultimately happiness comes from them.
But having a dream and making it happen is bliss.
Pure joy.

My Journey is beginning!

Well I Started college at the beginning of this semester. It sucks so far. I really only want to do my algae business project. Algae is really the only thing I want to do. I've gotten to the point where I would say I have 80% of a business plan. I've decided that with ten thousand dollars I could start to get started on developing a business of growing algae for biofuel. The plan now is to work till I have ten thousand dollars and then buy 5 acres of land and dig a pit, and grow algae. So my roommate was able to hook me up with a job, should only take me about 6 months or so to save up ten grand. As things are always though, it will take much longer than that. So yeah thats my most recent update I'll let you guys know when things get closer, maybe I'll add some pictures of the property I want to buy.

Why algae

why do i want to do algae?
is it the money
is it the possibility of fame?
people tell me it can't be done
people say everyone else has already done it
people tell me that i will never make any money

people tell me the idea of growing algae is ludicrous
they tell me i shouldn't even try,
People laugh directly to my face as i tell them
i tell them my conviction to grow algae
to be the man that changed the face of oil
to bring jobs back into america
to bring our wealth americas history
our heritage our beliefs

to bring them back
bring them all back to america
maybe that's why i grow algae
or rather why i want to grow algae
because they don't want me to
and i want to

maybe its because i'm stubborn.

maybe its for America

Carnegie hall!

A few months ago my men's choir, Tactus was invited to sing at Carnegie hall. We will be one of only a couple high schools, and to my knowledge the only public high school to be asked to attend the event. The concert is set up by DCINY Distinguished Concerts International New York. The man who was curating the event was using you tube as a means to find groups to come sing, when he stumbled upon our version of "prayer of the children" (which is still on youtube you can look it up as Tactus ((BTW Tactus is not pronounced like cactus but more like TAHctoos))prayer of the children). So he found that he liked us he talked to his supervisor which is the director of Chanticleer who also is a director of one of the colleges down there, i think its UC Berkeley, Which surprise we had gone down there for our Choir tour two years ago and had stopped by him, so he knew we were good. So we got invited and we accepted the invitation. The problem is is that it is going to cost us upwards of $65k  to get our whole choir there, approximately $1700 per student, so we have been fundraising our butts of. What im really trying to say, is that if you're rich and you happen to read my blog, or even if you're not rich but would like to donate any amount, which is tax deductible, please visit our website sendustonyc.org thanks in advance.

my life revised 650 word version

Born in La Grande Oregon on February 4th 1994 my brother Allan was born atypically. Flash forward 2 years, April 30th, I am born healthy and loudly crying, my parents were happy for that, in Scottsdale Arizona. Flash forward two more years and a move to Los Angeles California, my sister Mia, also born atypically. What is atypical? My brother and sister were born with a genetic defect, Cri-Du-Chat, which is French for cry of the cat, they cry softly and quietly when young. Cri-Du-Chat also causes mental retardation, and other physical effects. For example my brother cannot gain weight, however he has great gross motor skills. My Sister has always been a chubby blonde haired child, she has terrible gross motor skills, but her fine motor skills are great. Here is snippet of my abnormal life.
So flash forward to my first memories, I remember of my brother and sister, is of playing in the back yard of my current house, in the dirt. We owned two yellow steel Tonka trucks, and my brother and I would sit in our backyard and play with them, I never even realized he was developmentally delayed, until I was probably six. I knew that I was smarter and bigger than my sister, but I was older, I was also bigger and smarter than my brother, and I didn’t get that he was older than me. This confused me at the start, and I began to wonder why that was, eventually my parents explained the situation to me. Right then and there I loved my brother even more.
He was always my friend, my loveable goofy brother who has the most contagious smile you have ever seen, though there is no perfect child. One day I remember quite vividly we have air vents in our floor. Allan pulled one out when I was probably ten; he just left it there, upside down. Keeping in mind he has been told not to play with the air vents and leave them out, they have sharp edges. However when I got in the room something entirely different made me mad and I literally was hopping mad I’m sure you get the rest of the picture. That’s my awesome brother for you, in a nutshell, loveable and goofy, sometimes obnoxious.
My sister is a goof ball too. She would always go in my room, and “borrow” (*cough* steal *cough*) my stuff and play with it, and when I would get home from football or wrestling she would go and hide, of course not what I enjoyed most. A year ago she was diagnosed with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma; this diagnosis is beyond rare for anyone under the age of 20 having only a couple diagnoses ever. She went through her first round of chemo, no longer chubby. She went to Salt Lake City in early November to get a bone marrow transplant from her own cells, anticipated to be there for three months came home in early December on my dad’s birthday, with new dark brown hair. They thought that the cancer was gone, they were wrong. In June they found the cancer was back so they started several new drugs for chemo. Currently my sister is in Salt Lake City with my mother, and they have a month left. This time however the donor of the bone marrow was our sister Jessica age five, so far in early October everything seems good, and she should be home with my mom in a month.

I realize that I have really told the background of my siblings, and that’s because they are what has made me. My siblings have taught me so many things; patience, responsibility, Trust, understanding, listening, patience, love, respect, kindness, long suffering, and did I mention patience. My siblings are who I am, and I am their protector.

My life story

Feel free to share, ill post two revisions of this, one where it is a maximum of 650 words, and one where i fill out my sisters side of the story in a bit more detail, and add stories from my childhood. thanks for taking the time to read.

Questions

Why does this life of ours just sort of drag on some times. Do you all know what I'm talking about, occasionally we just live life really slowly. For example about a month ago I was still in my summer vacation, my pre senior year summer vacation. And then school started, it was like someone took a giant mat of rubber and wedged it against the conveyor belt of my life, it was kind of insane the difference. I think its mainly because I added about 6 more hours to everyday, and a lot less down time than I previously had. Which means I'm being more productive, but everyone knows its great to have some down time, and i actually really enjoy the amount of downtime that I get. anyways what are some questions you guys have?

Random stuff from school

Analysis paragraph #1
Ayn Rand is an author who employs the arts of description. She eloquently weaves her words and adjective into a flowing picture in your mind. She envelops you in the scenery and the sounds flood your ears. Imagery and scenery are what make a story a story, without it you just sit there in a world of words. A world of words is black and white there is no imagination to pick enjoy there is no world to view, just words laid out in front of you like an endless highway. Ayn rand shapes the words and molds them into worlds; she carves them into mountains, sculpts them into seas, and creates a world that you never had known.

My Music theory

Every musician has their theory on what makes great music (its a fact do not question it). Some believe the harder the song is to play the more people will like it, some believe the opposite, some believe you have to swing everything, and so on and so forth. Of course the factors that depend on some random person liking your music is the presentation, it always helps to be clean shaven and have a nice suit, or other suitable clothes. Then the actual music, but what is it about your music that makes everyone want to listen to it, what is it that makes your music more interesting than mine, van halen's, ingrid michaelson's, or the beatles? I want to break the types of music into two categories, to discover how to find that small part that makes you different. There is music with voices and music with out voices, the challenge is for both to sound like the others great qualities.  I doubt few would argue that the human voice and words can more easily speak to any listeners soul than a guitar solo. however rhythmical and tonal integrity or more easily and much more true on instruments.
Voices have a talent of speaking to and uncovering a mans deepest desires, secrets, thoughts, and emotions. because the words are more relatable they teach you how to live they let you know directly what they mean. Even all instrumental songs have a title of words. this is the missing element most instrumentalists are missing when they set out to create their music, they lack a voice. my secret for instrumentalists is to mimic the human voice and words. Mimic the inflections of your favorite singer and try to play that song like they are singing it, rise and fall where they do even with every word, not just with lines or phrases. ill get back to y'all tomorrow and elaborate on this some more

blacksmithing take two

With the cold weather ensuing one thing is eminent in my family, a fire. now your normal wood fire has very little practical smelting or blacksmithing applications, too much soot, not hot enough etc. However there is one thing they are good for, making charcoal. We all need some sort of fuel to heat our kilns, and some including me do not have the ability or time to go drive into eastern Oregon to get a tonne or so of coal to use, even though it only costs a few dollars. which leaves my fuel of choice to be charcoal, at least until I can get my waste oil burner working properly.
So how do you go about making charcoal in a fireplace without it all burning up with the fire? It's really not all that hard, all that you need is a good nice steel can, the thicker the better. The can needs to have a loose lid or holes in the top to allow the wood gas somewhere to escape to. Fill the can full of wood and stick it in your fire and let  It sit in the fire until you don't see any more smoke or flames coming out of the holes or edge of the lid then let it sit in there for another ten minutes then pull it out leave the lid on until its cooled down then use the charcoal to your hearts content.
About the flames coming out of the lid this is because of wood gas production which then the wood gas catches on fire, you don't have to worry about your charcoal burning. Wood gas is a product of heated up wood it is highly flammable, so flammable in fact that it can be used to power a car if the engine is converted slightly.
So after an entire winter of this I should build up enough of a stock to be able to run the entire summer without having to buy any charcoal. if you have any questions leave a comment or shoot me a message.

MORMONS ARE AWESOME

So I don't know how many of my readers are LDS, or how we are affectionately known, Mormon. As many in the Idaho area know the Boise temple was just refurbished, redone, redesigned, and redecorated. Now it is time for it to be rededicated, which will happen on this Sunday the 18th. Before the dedication our prophet Thomas S. Monson has asked the youth of the temple district and the rest of Idaho to have put on a cultural celebration.
For the past couple of months the youth have been meeting in their respective wards and stakes learning the dance routines if they are on the dance crew, and learning the songs if they are in the choir. I personally am in the choir, and in fact so is our very own Dan. its been great because i was able to have a spiritual experience at each of the practices, when we were singing songs of praise, to our God.
So this Saturday the 17th we are having a huge rehearsal and then do the presentation for our beloved prophet. That is what I get to do all of tomorrow, sing praises and then preform to the mouthpiece of God on our earth at this time Thomas S. Monson.

Jazz Combo

A Friend of mine who is in choir with me is an amazing pianist. And a few weeks ago he was playing in our auditorium and he said hey Andrew come in here with your trumpet, and because I'm always the curious type and i love doing anything involving music i said sure what do you want me to do. I walked in there and he played me a song. He told me there were four parts to the song and he wanted to jam with me. So we worked in the next ten or so minutes through the four parts of the song and then jammed on our newly written song.
So for the past few weeks we have been developing our sound and working through this song multiple times, just listening and jamming and seeing how it goes. So far its been going great, we play twice a week or so just through the song that we recreate remix distort and fix every time. It is great. The "practices" (more like jam sessions) are different every time  some times the song is super upbeat and happy, the other times its kind of a slow swing jazz where it flows very methodically over the notes.
The only reason we call it the same song is because from practice to practice can hear the old song in the new one. Every time we come into practice he says how does it go and I say "A" minor and he says oh yeah, and then we play, and that's why it is different every time, because neither of remember what the old song sounded like.
So yeah if anyone needs a little two man jazz combo to come play for hours on end with it all being different and with little to no down time hit me up with a message, we work cheap, and we bothe double up as male vocalists.

final note on algae bioreactor

I went outside to check on my algae bucket and found that it was full of water. I stuck a stick down to see if I still had my layer of algae on the bottom, and I didn't. So its still sitting out there, maybe this time next year it will have lost all its water again  but anyways that's the end of my algae project for this year, largely because Idaho just gets slightly too cold every night. maybe Ill work on my VAWT, vertical axis wind turbine, and try to get a battery bank to charge and a use for that battery bank, maybe powering my sisters dogs heat lamp?

So yah its a cool site go check it out become a fan of me for some updates and free songs.

more on my bioreactor

I've been reading about separating algae from water and it seems like their are several different methods that can be used. you can just let it dry out in the sun without a lid, this however presents some problems, it needs to both be very hot, or mildly hot with a breeze, and bugs.

now bugs are really annoying hence the name, bug, they like to lay their eggs in still water that then create larvae which in turn will eat your algae. and then they become whatever including mosquitoes so putting open containers out in the open is good as long as its hot and you have a draft and a way of covering the containers without restricting air movement by too much. one thing i have found works is you get some netting like the kind you can buy at jo anns fabrics something kinda like this would work i think http://www.joann.com/nylon-net-72-many-colors/prd7200/ I would be wary of this it seems like the holes might be too big but you want your holes to be smaller than the oppening of a water bottle and the netting needs to have an inch or more of space between itself and the water so no eggs get laid through the netting.

another method is to use a process called auto-floculation,  auto-floculation is the raising of the PH of the water to 10.5 or more (for most common species). this causes the algae to clump together and sink to the bottom of the tank, this doesnt remove all the algae from the water or any of it for that matter, all it does is make it easier to gather the algae. so the algae is then in clumps on the bottom of the container you can either use a find combed net to get the algae out or you can slowly drain the water off of the top and collect the remaing algae afterwords. the nice thing about this method is then you dont have to worry about getting a new starter culture you just reuse the water give it some more nutrients and wait.

you may be asking right now, (or googling) how to raise the PH level in water, well one way to do it with the algae is to remove the carbon dioxide supply the algae will continue to consume carbon dixide raising the PH and making the algae flocculate. another way i have read about but dont know how well it will work is by adding baking soda to the water. baking soda is sodium bicarbonate which is supposedly a basic substance therefore raising the PH (correct me if im wrong), therefore flocculating the algae.

well thats all i have for you for today (and the last couple of days) check in soon and i might even have a working camera to take pictures on!
